11 on 11 -Elle

Hello everyone! Welcome to February (Yes I’ve only realised it’s Feb now and after this I will go hibernate in a library somewhere and wait for it to pass).

Anyway I’m delighted to announce we have the all so sunny Elle with her take on the 11 on 11. She writes, runs a blog called Unpopular Opinions and is an undergrad student studying Veterinary Medicine, and a positively delightful person if ever the was one one.

Here’s Elles take on the 11 on 11!

1. Well…Who are you?

Hi, Nyasha! I’m Elle. I want to thank you for this wonderful opportunity to be a part of your “11 on 11” interview for your blog. I’m humbly honored to be here. I’m a 22 year old Filipina blogger and my blog is called Unpopular Opinions where I write about the beauty in insignificant things, the things that don’t usually matter to us but tend to be most important. I am an undergraduate student studying Veterinary Medicine, which shows my love for science, and animals too. I always greet dogs (sometimes more often than I greet people lol) whenever I see one. My family has 9 dogs and 1 cat and I love seeing them play and sleep all day. I also love to dance and I’m very much a lover of the Hip Hop culture and I take pride in a culture that brings people in every background and in every part of the world together. I danced even when I was a kid and I got to win championship competitions when I entered college. Although things have changed I still continue to be driven by music in my life which has helped me through some tough times. I also love to watch movies and eat blueberry cheesecakes. *yum*

2. What drove you to start a blog?

What drove me is my need to express my thoughts into writing because of anxiety and my overthinking problem. Blogging seriously has helped me overcome those and I couldn’t be more thankful. I started my blog as a safe space where I write about the stuff that matters to me, stuff that has helped become who I am now, and what keeps me on this journey are the people I share it with. I don’t just write based on my niche, the things that I actually share on my blog are a part of my experiences, my pursuit of things that I believe matter, and a part of who I am. This is something I loved second to dance, honestly speaking. That’s how much I value it.

3. What else draws your heart and drives your interest?

Well, this one’s a bit hard but uhm.. I would have to say that as of now, it’s writing, my blog, and myself. Right now, I’m kind of focused on myself. There are some things that drive my interest like music, and just like you, I admire being able to learn new things too. I love challenging my own beliefs and thoughts which I think helps me become more understanding to the people around me and open-minded to all possibilities.

4. Your most cherished achievement and your greatest adversity?

I would have to say that one of my most cherished achievements was that I was able to pass and go study at the university that I love the most. It really is an honor and I believe my college life has really helped me grow into the person I never thought I would be.

5. A book, a movie and an album

Book – Oh, The Places You’ll Go! By Dr. Seuss

Movie – V for Vendetta (you should definitely watch this)

Album – Paramore’s After Laughter

6. Do you have a mantra, quote or idea that you live by?

I have lots but the mantra I often tell myself nowadays is, “All things, good or bad, come and go.”

7. Describe how it feels and how it looks when you’re in your element

It’s always the feeling of just being in the moment and kind of like being in a trance and I lose track of time and the things happening around me. I usually feel this when I dance and listen to music.

8. If you could travel to three locations of your choice then finally sit down and have a heart to heart with one person, where and who?

Three is not enough because I’d love to travel someday but I would have to say somewhere in Europe (maybe Greece), in South America (like maybe Brazil), but before that I’d love to marvel in the beauty of my own country and probably go to Siargao Islands. I’d definitely tell my siblings about it and possibly my best friend. Haha

9. If you were to describe your life, passions, and ideals in aesthetics what would it be?

It’s probably something like a peaceful beach and the sun touching the waters in the horizon. Some days there’s a storm, yet at the end the sun’s still there.

10. What time period would you visit in history?

I don’t know though history seems like a very dark place to go back to. Maybe the time when nature was still abundantly rich and the earth was still green and blue.

11. What is the closest thing to real magic?

Life is the closest thing to magic.

[One more thing, ask me anything]

What is your aspiration in life?

[Hmm good question, I guess one of them would have to be to be myself as much as possible till the end. There’s this construct in society that puts you in a box, sort of turns you into another manufactured object off the assembly line with a code for identification, society forces you to “fit”. When all is said and done I don’t want to be just an ID number or another mild mannered member of society, I want to be myself, I want to express myself and I want to do things for myself. Rather fall on my own sword than be another unnamed character that fell in the forest and no one heard a sound.]

Loved your answer at the end! 😄 Above all else the one thing we should never forget is who we are, yet we keep losing the idea over things that drive our attention in this world. I’m really grateful for this interview!! Thank you so much once again, Nyasha! 😊✨
